People of the Second Chance by Mike Foster

“His Beloved”

One of the fundamental questions we ask in life is: Who am I?

My simplistic answer to this question is this: My truest, purest, nonnegotiable identity is the beloved. And in spite of my checkered past, my fabulous flops, my painful history, my deepest flaws, my boneheaded screw-ups, and, yes, even beyond my own beliefs about myself, I am God’s beloved. This is my foundational identity and the foundational identity of every human being.

This is important because identity is the engine that drives the relationship not only with ourselves but also with God and others. If your identity is broken, your life is broken. If you define it incorrectly, you will carry that wrong definition into your story. If all you see are your limitations, you will miss out on the stunning possibilities God is creating in front of you.

When I am working with hurting people, probably the most tragic thing I witness is when they have accepted the lie that whatever ugly, can’t-talk-about-it, embarrassing thing has happened in their stories is beyond the grace of God. That his mercy doesn’t reach far enough. That his hand of grace is just beyond…

  • the quiet addiction to painkillers;
  • the shame of an unexpected divorce;
  • someone’s sexuality and what it all means;
  • the betrayal of a family member;
  • the fear of growing old and being alone;
  • a secret abortion and the sorrows of miscarriages;
  • the depression, the sadness, and the eating disorder;
  • the drinking and the bad choices;
  • hidden regrets that you chose your career instead of your kids.

Yet God is reaching out in all these painful moments and whispers, Just reach back to me, my beloved! I am here. Please, I beg you. Just reach back.

As you start your five days of devotions on the subject of second chances, listen to God’s call of love to you. Believe in his grace and loving-kindness toward you. As Brennan Manning said, “Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is illusion.”

What is your answer to the question “Who am I?” Can you see yourself as God’s beloved?

God Declares His Presence

Read Jeremiah chapter 23 before reading today’s ministry blog post listed below. After reading Jeremiah 23 you’ll have a clearer understanding of the posted message.

The Presence of God Declared

God writes this warning to the many false prophets in Jeremiah’s time. He reaffirms that He sees all and that judgement will come soon to those who oppose Him and His Word.

What might be a fearful statement to those who oppose God can actually be received as a message of hope and reassurance to those who love Him.

There's nowhere to hide from the presence of the Lord God

God declare His presence is everyehere

The Lord promises believers His presence, His power, and His love. There is nowhere we can hide. We can be confident in this.  We can believe this. We don’t have to fear Him.

The Lord is in the midst of us – whether we believe or not; whether we sense it or not.
The Lord is present with mighty power to save. He can save us from the bondage of sin, from the misery of our circumstances, and from the battlefield of our minds and our hearts.

Although He sees the secrets of our hearts, our mistakes, and our failures, He rejoices that we have the righteousness of Christ.  He quiets our fears, our worries, and our inadequacies with the power of His love.
Is the fact that God sees all a warning to you, or is it an encouragement to you? Will you trust that the Lord is with you even when you don’t sense Him? If you have surrendered your life to the Lord, will you choose to believe that the Lord rejoices in you? Will you refuse to focus on feelings of unworthiness?
Father God, You continue to amaze me with Your persistent love for ordinary flawed people…ordinary people who often resist Your love.

You woo us, pursue us, wait patiently for us with Your arms wide open offering Your unfailing love. When we become Yours, we are Yours for eternity, without hesitation, regret, or disappointment.

Forgive me, Lord, when I allow feelings of unworthiness to prevent me from believing Your truth.  Forgive me, Lord, when I allow feelings of failure and unworthiness to send me hiding from You.  Thank You, Lord, that I am not invisible to You and Your love for me fills the heaven and earth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Go Through, Go Through The Gates

Jesus saves and He heals

All things are possible through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.

Behold, the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the Lord: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. (Isaiah 62:10-12) This is your Word for today in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen! God bless.

Following In the Footprints of Christ

When was the last time you stopped to think about the type of lifestyle you’re leading before the world system? I don’t know about you my dear friend and blog reader.

But, this is a really pointed question which I’ve had to ask myself time and time again; in order, to truly ensure my walk of faith with the Lord Jesus Christ.

In fact, I’ve found myself living somewhat short of the calling of the Lord God in a area or two of my personal life. Thus, the Biblical saying “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

You see; whenever, we’re not following, Jesus Christ, in total submission and obedience we don’t look for people to follow us into disobedience. Instead, we depend on those who turly love us in Christ Jesus to correct us an place us back on the right path of His (Christ) righteousness.

Then, it’s after confessing my sins before a loving, caring, redeemer Savior. That, I can be restored to a right relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Then like, Pual the Apostle, I can truly say follow me as I follow Christ Jesus. (See, 1 Corinthians 11:1)

It’s as we learn to follow in the footprints of our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. That, we each will learn there’s nothing which can separate us from the divinely given love of God. (See, Romans 8:38, 39)486802_4639145948730_1956069612_n

As we follow those who’re following, Jesus Christ, we’re in fact being daily confromed to the image of His Son. That, He (Jesus Christ) might be the firstborn among many brethren. (See, Romans 8:29, 30)

Union with Christ

Being a Christian is not just a matter of believing a set of doctrines. Of course belief and faith are crucial but the purpose of the work of salvation is to unite us with Christ. This is the heart of what it means to be a Christian.

There is a living, vital, dynamic union with Christ Christ that is not theoretial but real. This is why over 160 times in the New Testament Paul uses the words ‘in him’ or ‘in Christ’ or ‘in Christ Jesus’s.

For instance, in Christ ….

* We have every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3)

* We are chosen (Ephesians 1:4)

* We are brought near to God (Ephesians 2:13)

* We are created a new (Ephesians 2:10)

* We are loved by God (Romans 8:39)

* We are all one (Galatians 3:28)

Simply put, a Christian is someone who is in Christ. Spiritual life comes from union with Christ, not by simply knowing what the Bible says (James 2:19).

You can always get up an start again

For many of us who’re seeking to get back on track in our personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It can sometimes feel as though we’re so unworthy of the very love of God seeing we’ve fallen so many times in our growing, developing, relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

First off, I want to let each of you know that God hasn’t given up on you my dear brother/sister. He’s so wonderful, as well as, forgiven to those who’ll call on Him for forgiveness. See, 1 John 1:9 for farther insight concerning this great forgiveness spoken of here.

I can personally testify to this amazing fact of God’s great loving kindness and His awesome forgiveness. Simply, because He’s forgiven me so many times, until I cannot even begin to count them. So, yes, my dear fellow Christian, God will always be right there just waiting on you to call out to Him for forgiveness. In fact, you can always get up an start again. God bless.

Pride The Growth Killer

Pride can be a really hard task master in our personal lives when we allow it (pride) to drive us around. This is something I learned during the long years of my developing Christian walk.

Well, today, I came across one of my fellow sisters in Christ. Who had a real word in season to speak forth into my personal life. I received it into the rich soil of my spirit man.

But, then she just went on and on about the fact. She thought I was letting the devil take me out of the divine calling for which I was anointed.

It was at this time that the Lord God moved upon my inner spirit-man to speak forth a word for this wonderful soul. “Guess on what subject? Pride.”

Yes, pride will kill the power of the Holy Ghost in any child of God’s life. As the holy Word of God states; pride cometh before the fall. It was clear to notice the word spoken had an effect upon this wonderful young soul.

For right there in my very presence she begin to weep as though she’d been touched by the very hand of her Creator God. I personally believe God worked something out in the both of our lives on this awesome day of HOLY visitation.

Saints let each of us always be mindful of the need for prayerful support and encouragement of one aanother.

As we each daily pass through this darkened sphere of life. In closing; may the Lord God richly bless my dear sister in the common faith which we both hold dear to our heart. You pray for me, I’ll pray for you remember we’re a family. God bless.
